Yo!! Im taking you back to when i was a kid to show you some of the things I saw growing up in San Jose and the Bay Area. Many do not know this but I was a Strutter, Popper before I was a BBoy and then in 82 I started breakin. I was actually in a crew called The Street Wise Strutters from San Jose California. Some of my influences in the Struttin and Poppin realm as a kid were groups like The South Side Playboys (Mojo, Rip!! from that crew was a big influence on me.), Demons Of The Mind known today as Medea Sirkas, PlayBoys Incorporated from San Jose (Very Big Influence on me), Just Us From San Jose, Jam Patrol, Gentlemen of Productions from Oakland Ca. and many others that i will later present once i get some of my memory back!! LOL!! It has been along time!! Im at the moment trying to get in contact with many of my old friends from the 80`s, it is no easy task since i was always moving back and forth from both coasts, California to Puerto Rico and back again. Having great conversations with them has really helped us all remember some great times that we shared together and sadly to say some i have forgot. But i def will say that many can see how the dance has influenced me in many ways and how i use many of those Struttin isolations into my Breakin. This is what makes my style what it is today.
In this clip Presented to us by PopTart from San Francisco you will see one of the pioneering crews of what is called Fillmore Style, Struttin. Here are some of the original members from the group called Demons of the Mind Better known today as Medea Sirkas. I have seen these brothas perform many many times as a kid at Great America, Studio 47, Santa Clara County Fair Grounds,Pier 39 in San Francisco and many other places. I have had the honor to be actually battling in the same Talent shows as they were. Key Word Talent Show as it was called when i was a kid!! LOL!!! You would be going against tap dancers and all kinds of weird cats!!! LOL!! Thats a whole other story!!! LOL!! Lets get back to the subject. This performance was in 1984, watch these cats on how perfect there performance was!!! I know its long but watch the whole thing!! They do some real nice combinations yall!!!
